A doctor in the Argenteuil Hospital was arrested this afternoon, not for any medical wrong doing, but for refusing to "comply" with SQ (police) officers.

A brief translation for my non-francophone friends and family:
At about 15:15 an infant of three months was taken to the emergency for a broken leg. The hospital staff alerted Youth Protection and the baby was transferred 90 minutes after admission to Sainte-Justine Hospital in Montreal.
On site, the SQ officers asked the doctor for his testimony, which he refused, referring them Sainte-Justine,'s since the baby had been transferred.
It was then that the doctor was arrested and escorted by police outside the hospital in front of many witnesses.
The direction general of the hospital, Mr. Roberge, who I personally met a few weeks ago, had this to say:
"I believe they had an exemplary conduct as they have done all that could be done for the infant. Our team is in shock following a police intervention they perceived as aggressive and traumatic." (this has been translated)
Despite a lot of complaints about long waits at the Lachute Emergency, the staff are excellent. My family and have mostly good experiences there. On Kevin's recent trip there with his broken hand he was not only well treated, but in and out in under 4 hours. I am sure the doctor in question did his job correctly and the police were out of line.

UPDATE: 01-Mar-2012
Now the doctor who was strong-armed by police had tendered his resignation.
We are already lacking doctors in the area, especially at the hospital emergency ward, and now we have lost a good one. The doctor followed proper procedure and did absolutely nothing wrong.
This morning the SQ opened an investigation surrounding the circumstances of the arrest. I hope the officers in question get suspended.
