Opening the cottage 2016

April 25, 2016: First time in the cottage this year. Ice still on lake.
Dead mouse in the toilet...2 dead mice, actually!

May 9, 2016: Made the beds.
Master bedroom

Lakeside stairs...some damage from shifting posts under the house.

You can see the slant to the posts. Hhmmm...no wonder we call the cottage the Slanty Shanty.

The floating wharf is not in yet. The solid wharf is looking a little wonky.

The bunk house all set up for Cam (or guests)

May 28: First weekend at the lake.

Not having our boat in the lake didn't stop us from getting a boat this weekend! Our neighbor took us out for a wee ride :-)

OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!
First of all, say what!?!? Gord Downey of my all-time favorite band has BRAIN CANCER!!!!????
Second of all, I got tickets to the Ottawa show on their final tour. Final tour. Final...still can't believe this...I know he's not family, or even someone I actually know, but I feel like he is a friend. I have learned so much about him, his band and his music over the past 20+ years of listening to The Tragically hip. His voice has been in the background of so many experiences in my life. I actually took an interest in some of Canada's history because of their lyrics.

I have been to see The Hip at The Montreal Forum, at Bourbon North, at a small venue somewhere in Montreal (I think it was on St. Denis St), at the Bell Centre and soon at the Canadian Tire Centre. Each show was different and amazing...such a tight band, lots of energy and it's really about the music, not about stunts, or lights, or costume changes...about music. I can't believe this it; this is going to be the last time I see them live.

June 11 typical...gggrrrrr!!!

June 14, 2014: Cottage

We went for 3 boat rides, today.

Nanna waving from her house.

I saw a double-crested cormorant on the lake today, a very rare sighting here.

We also saw a loon, a heron, 4 ducks, chipmunks, and blue jays.

Friday the 13th, 2014: flooding

It is Uncle Wayne's birthday today (June 13).

It has been raining for almost 3 days.
Water in the lake is very high. It is up over the stone wall. At the rocks there is only 1 rock showing instead of the usual dozen or so. There are many wharves in or under water.

Water lapping over the side of Mom's wharf.

Wharf under water.

Rocks on the beach that came from the hill in the background when the road washed out.

Helping neighbors adjust the height of their wharf.

Water on the lawn.

The second wharf (which floats) is usually level with the first, fixed section of wharf.

Finally some spring flowers

Easter April 18, 2014
Grandmaman's crocuses.

This is what it looks like at the cottage and at Nanna's house.

Will Spring EVER come?

Spring, where are you?

March 22, 2014

Last Saturday we shoveled the cottage roof. We were actually warm up there. Sunday it was bitterly cold again. Then today, this:
Seriously? This is what we wake up to on the 2nd day of spring?

HHmmmmmm....

Isn't this a little warm for May 6th?

Hot Stuff!

Spring sightings

April 12, 2013

On April 2nd I saw 6 robins in the yard. It snowed 3 days later.

This week I saw a Great Blue Heron, 2 or 3 flocks of geese, 2 hooded mergansers and a chipmunk. It's going to snow ~15 cm today!!!

C'mon Spring, we`re all confused, we need you!
