On April 21, 2011 a Quebec show called "Enquete" aired an expose on the for-profit dog/cat pound Le Berger Blanc. Le Berger Blanc has long been criticised for poor treatment of their animals, yet 10 Montreal boroughs and at least 4 other cities have contracts with this pound. Enquete showed secret footage of just how cruel and disgusting, not-to-mention illegal, this place is. They must be stopped now and forever.
I am not saying that we do not need animal control. Quebec is one of the worst places for stray dogs and cats and pet abandonment, particularly July 1, moving day. However, these animals need a chance to be reunited with their owners or adopted and if not after an appropriate length of time, to at least die painlessly, if not with dignity, as well.
In this show, the information, in particular the lies and shortcomings of Le Berger Blanc, being reported and the reaction from the owner, Pierre Couture, is worth watching. He has been increasing his fees by as much as 155% per year in order to "provide better care and service", yet he can't afford to buy a scanner that works with today's microchips. This would be a valuable service to all those pet owners who pay to have their beloved pet microchipped, pay increasing fees for Le Berger Blanc via their taxes, but who currently cannot be reunited with their pets in this manner.

WARNING: This is difficult to watch.
-Each segment in about 9 minutes.
-The 1st segment is very imformative and OK to watch.
-In the second segment there is real footage of animals being killed. If you want to skip this footage:
..........Stop at 3:28 and skip to 4:00
..........Stop at 4:36 and skip to 5:22. (I nearly threw up in this one)
-The 3rd segment has difficult images, but not as shocking as the ones I mentioned above. There is, however, a shocking discovery about how the animals are disposed of...and it involves my home town! (This starts at about 5:00)
If you can watch this without wanting to do something to help these voiceless souls, then you have no soul. Write a letter to Mayor Tremblay, to the boroughs, send emails, sign petitions, get out and protest. SPREAD THE WORD. Any and every act will help!

Even if you don't live in Montreal you can put pressure on the mayor to stand up against animal cruelty right in his own city!

A for-profit pound does not make sense. Why would they encourage sterilization, education, adoption, etc....that would take business away from them.
