My mom, Darcy and I went to Ottawa today to attend Donnie Cross's funeral. He was my dad's (and my) cousin and a person, that although I only saw a once every few years, I have lots of memories of. All of my memories of him include an impish grin and lots of laughter!
Despite the very sad occasion, it was good to see some of my dad's family, as I very rarely do. I introduced Darcy to everyone there for very 1st time, and she is nearly 3 and a half! I met Don's three daughters for the 1st time. As Isla, Don's sister, said, the silver lining of Donnie being ill for the past year, was that his three daughter's spent time with him and got to know the people around him. They are lovely ladies and I am glad I can say I know them.
It was a miserable, cool, rainy day and we headed straight back home, but my GPS had other ideas and took us on a nice tour of the Parliament Buildings and down a road...in the wrong direction. Eventually we made our way back to Quebec and home.
May you rest in peace, Donnie
