Justice for Benji
A brief English translation of the story:
Jean-Gilles Bélisle, owner of Service de protection canine des Monts (SPCM), (Canine Protection Service des Monts - a FOR PROFIT shelter) in Sainte-Adèle, Quebec, has been criminally charged with willfully neglecting or omitting to provide adequate care for a dog in his custudy in August 2010.
He must appear in court June 21, 2012 and faces a fine of up to $5000 and/or 6 months in jail. I hope he gets the maximum!
Sylvie Duguay saw Benji, a young Lhassa Apso in a bad state, unable to stand because of injuries, in his cage. She bought the dog (the bill even stated "injured" on it) and took him to a vet immediately where multiple bruises and 3 fractures to his pelvis were confirmed. The decision to euthanize the dog was probably the best outcome for him.

Another reason why animal shelters should be non-profit. It doesn't make financial sense that a place trying to make a buck will go out of their to spend money to properly care for their animals. The government needs to step in and make it illegal to earn money by killing and neglecting animals.
