American Pie

Jan 8, 2016

This was my facebook post today:

"Listening to this at 8:00 tonight with a wee rye and ginger..."them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and RYE," that, and it was my dad's drink of choice.

Here's to you, the best dad I could have ever asked for, who passed away 17 years ago today, on FRIDAY January 8, 1999 at 8:00. ❤️❤️❤️ 🍻 ❤️❤️❤️

Every day was hard for a long time, but got better. Fridays were hard for a long time, and got better. The 8th of the month was hard for a long time, but got better. The 8th of January was hard for a very long time and got a little less hard, but the 8th of January falling on a Friday...NOT BETTER."

I must have listened to this song hundreds of times with my dad...love it and all the memories attached, especially listening to this on the truck radio/CASSETTE player driving around on the back roads.

Listen to American Pie by Don McLean on @AppleMusic.

In other news today:

I bought myself a tuque I actually like and will actually wear! Billabong, lined inside with fleece, so no scratchy/itchy forehead...yes!

Darcy of course had to try it on, too.

Of course she added a little something under her dress to look more like Mommy!!

Gaspe: Aug 8, 2014

Friday
Woke up to the sound of rain and freezing! Without getting out of bed, Kevin and I watched a Heron hunting the water, low tide. We had a quiet, easy morning due to the rain. Thank God for technology!
Morning coffee.
Cameron entertained us with his theory that his ipod will recharge overnight WITHOUT being plugged in!

Kevin checked out the lines and there doesn’t seem to be a leak anywhere, perhaps exhaust that we smelled, so hot water is available again!

After lunch we headed out to visit Aunt Mary and Patsy. We also saw Mavis and Charlie and their daughter, Mary-Ann and her BF and the little dog Victoria.
Back to the beach, skipping stones and exploring. We saw 2 osprey catch fish!

Kevin and I had a little drink to our dads on this beautiful beach.

Supper on the beach followed by showers for Darcy and I. Darcy got some hot water, but not enough to wash her hair. I got NONE! Kevin fell asleep waiting for the water to warm up again!

15 years since I said goodbye.

Although I think of my father daily and miss him a lot, on this day (Jan 8, 2014) it's a little harder. It's been 15 years since he departed the world as we know it. Hopefully to a better place; wherever he is I know he's been watching over me.

I tell Darcy and Cameron lots of stories about my dad and I often mention things he would have liked (or not, sometimes) about them or to do with them. I hope that Darcy will have a sense of who Grandpa Wilby was and remember her favorite stories about Mommy and her Daddy.
